Cakes Cakes Cakes and a cup of Ice Cream from HK + Durian Cheesecake! :)

Okay. Who hates cakes? No one. Even though there's many kinds of cakes.. a cake has a sponge, a filling, some has cream.. and bla.

While there will be no way I can explore different kinds of cakes that are available in this era.. Here I decided to make a recap of all the cakes and sweets I tasted in Hong Kong during my visit last June. Sorry for the delays.. But here it is.

1. Two mini-cakes from Agnes B.

Okay. For this one.. I didn't actually expect this one to be just a cake review as I actually wanted to review their cafe as a whole. But due to the massive crowd.. I can only take away these two cakes back to my hotel and a cup of Hot Chocolate. The Valencia, is a dark chocolate cake basically, and was powdered with this purplish-material. I love this cake though. The chocolate and the sweetness is just fine for me. You know what? At first I thought that this is a yam cake!

The second cake from Agnes B was named... Carla. Hey Carla. So she's a cheesecake. A milky, creamy cheesecake. Sis said this was a plain cream cake. But nice names huh?

2. Durian Cheescake from Park Hotel

Mmm! CHEESECAKE! Every where I go.. There seems to be a delicious delicacy invloving cheese in the making, This one's too! But what about.. Combining Durian and Cheese? Hmm.. Is it really gonna work out? But YES! This baby is an interesting combination....! The fresh smell of durian.. Enhanced with the richness of cheese. Delicious. Not too sweet, and the durian scent is just right! The fresh peach.. is a nice decoration and a nice fruit to loosen things up. :)

The Durian Cheesecake, sliced.

3. Eclairs from La Maison du Chocolat

Sorry for the bad angle on this one - the store clerk has scolded me twice (this eclair was the first) as I was making the purchase in their Store located in The Elements. Despite the scold - their eclair tastes like heaven. Soo delicious. Especially, the caramel one (below). Soo rich.

4. Dark Chocolate Ice Cream

The second scold from the store clerk.. resulted from this cupped ice cream. Hey! I love taking pictures of food! DUH! Well whatever. I hate debates so I paid for the eclair, the ice cream, and leave and took this pic of Dark Chocolate Ice Cream just outside their store. Happy now?
Well whatever, Again. another delicious treat. The Chocolate was dark enough to make me feel entertained and have let loose of my anger towards that particular store clerk. Next visit, stop being so fussy okay?

Overall, Nice sweets hunt. Love my sweets time in HK.

Teritorri - Teriyaki Experience

Okay. I have to admit that it is just five weeks since the start of a new school year. As a twelfth grader, things are sure tough as I have to keep my grades up for the first quarter of the academic year for the sake of my predicted grades. Oh my...

Whatever. The first day of Lebaran break, I went to Pondok Indah Mall to try Teritorri. I've been always wanting to try Teritorri since I've read an article from a free-to-grab magazine reviewing this establishment when I gathered with some friends at a cafe in Senayan.

And yeah. Sorry for the pic if it does not look really nice - i forgot to bring my camera that day.

So as their tagline mentioned: They are here to offer its guests a quality teriyaki experience. Located in the cozy Area 51 of PIM 1... I think I'm gonna have a nice lunch here at Teritorri.

Their specialty - of course Teriyaki-style cooked dishes. With two signature sauces: Original Teriyaki and Spicy Teriyaki.

So bla-bla-bla. I ordered.. My sis ordered.. And my mom too. However.. Apologize for only showcasing you my readers three dishes. I need to use the restroom when the dishes arrived... And mom and sis.. well.. already ruined the presentation of the dish.

So for me, I decide to have the N.Z Rib Eye with their Original Teriyaki sauce. Grilled to Medium well... This baby's juicy and tender.. And yes. I love their teriyaki sauce.

Next up.. Is the Teritorri Roll - a fusion sushi filled with teriyaki beef and topped with sliced unagi and avocado. Another nice teriyaki dish. Delicious.

Not to forget.. I also ordered some Yakitoris for myself. Two skewers of Garlic.. And Two skewers of Beef Enoki. And.. Very Nice.

Since they specialize in the so-called Teriyaki sauce.. I do have to comment on their teriyaki sauce. I love the fact that their teriyaki sauce tastes different from what other establishments has to offer. While some establishment only serves its customers teriyaki sauces that are only sweet, For me Teritorri serves me a delicious teriyaki sauce. It is not too sweet, yet I love the smell of the sake. Just strong enough to make you want for more. :D The spicy sauce? Well for me its nice to have an addition of a hot sauce.. but I guess the original will do just fine for me.

Overall, Nice food. Nice Sauce. Nice Ambience.

Baralek Rendang / Rendang Traveler's Event

Post Disclaimer: Beware. Many Writings. Many Pictures. Please enjoy them all!

Instead of writing this post at a later date with the notes that I took during the visit, I opted to bake this post when my mind's still fresh about the event. Well.. The posting date? Never mind. I post things slowly. I'm a busy student with my agendas marked.. Everywhere.

So somewhere during the month of July, I received an email from Azanaya for their next event. The Baralek Rendang. Set to take on the 4TH of August, 2012. Curious about events like the Underground Secret Dining and events such like, I booked a place for me and Lou.

D-day. So here I am, goin to the event with Lou. Was a sunny and a hot day, we arrive there late and miss two events: The sensory game and the presentation from Reno Andam Suri, the one who wrote the Rendang Traveler book. Indeed, I have purchased and now reading the book when I have the time.

During my arrival, yes. Again I repeat, I was late. So during my arrival.. Everyone was breaking their fast and ate the Serabi. It was okay.

With everyone ready to resume the event after breaking fast, there goes another opportunity for another presentation from Chef Adzan. This time, its about the cooking stuffs. Even though I am not a cook or someone that is able to cook.. I sure learn many things from him in regards to food and its ingredients behind it. One essential ingredient that was brought up was the Coconut. As mentioned by Chef Adzan and Lisa, every grown ingredients will have a different characteristics and taste depending on where they are grown. For example, Coconuts grown in the hilly areas will tend to have its soil taste and scent while Coconuts grown near shores will tend to have a sweeter taste. The same with Coconuts grown in Beaches: they will taste richer compared to other coconuts due to the existence of salt water.   So well here: I've got three of them compared:

Well yes. At one point, I sensed the aroma of Rendangs being prepared.. I decide to sneakily went to their preparation room and asked whether if I may take some pictures. And of course.. It's a yes! yay!

Lets start with the Rendang selections available that night.

Rendang Telur - crispy, delicious and rich! One of the best Indonesian food I had!

Rendang Tumbuk - Meatball cooked 'rendang''style

Rendang Belut Sawah (Eel Rendang) - One of the best Indonesian food I had in life!

Rendang Lokan - Well.. Correct me if I am wrong with this one. please!

Sambal Goreng Buncis

Done taking pictures of these mouthwatering rendang-cooked food, I returned back to my seat and then wait hungrily while waiting until its time to eat. Still.. After more discussions.. It's finally time. We are then served with all these creations and eat in 'minang' style together with all the participants.

And yeah. Located in the middle above is the Rendang Daun Kayu and some Sambal Cabe Ijo below.

Lou's plate - Dressed neat only for the sake of this photoshoot. Thanks lo!

And for desserts, we are served by another 'rendang' style food. It was the Bareh Rendang. Sweet and Coconut-ey! (Is there even such word? :D )

Time was limited, I also spoke with both Lisa Virgiano, the lady behind Azanaya and Mam Reno. From both conversations, Lisa said:  "Jangan cuma tahu rainbow cake, macaroons and cupcakes! Makanan Indonesia juga harus tahu!" (Don't just only acknowledge rainbow cake, macaroons and cupcakes!") well for me, this is true. I myself just realized that I have never posted anything in relates to Indonesian culinary since my blog was established. The same words came from Ibu Reno: "Kita butuh generasi muda Indonesia untuk mempromosikan makanan Indonesia." (We need the young generations of Indonesia to promote Indonesian culinary.") I do agree with both of these statements. So.. wish I could have more local foods over at my blog.. :D (pray for me so I could make it happen guys!)

In Conclusion, I had a fantastic time. I got to experience the taste of various rendang, learn new things, and also, inspired. Should not mistaken rendang as a type of dish, but as a cooking method.  Thanks to Azanaya, Ibu Reno, Ibu Lisa, and everyone for the wonderful time. :) Also thanks to Lou for accompanying me. :)

Best,
Rayns Raymond.
